Have you ever stumbled upon someone else’s belongings and unearthed a long-lost treasure?

The poetry and haiku I found runs through a gamut of emotions, observations, and styles. I’m certain you’ll come away from these little treasures with a favorite gem that makes the discovery of it so much sweeter to your soul.

The themes covered are topics such as love (naturally), loss, some ‘darker’ subjects, bullying, an apocalypse, and sets of ‘seasonal’ haiku. There’s even a bonus story tucked in at the end, and it was difficult to determine if it was real or quasi-autobiographical. All-in-all, an entertaining read.

The book is thin–not much more than 100 pages–and there are ‘spacer’ pages between most of the poems, for the sake of format and presentation. There’s a variegated font style that works well with each subject piece. The cover is matte finish depicting a writing desk in an attic. Good quality overall.

Coming in Late 2020

In years past, our youngest daughter, Yvonne, participated in NaNoWriMo. She always had great ideas, and typically blazed into the start of the project. She attended almost every write-in we hosted (I’ve been a Municipal Liaison since 2014), kibitzing and cajoling with the rest of the writers, helping them flesh out their own story ideas. The quandary she found herself in every year was trying to complete the story. She lamented that fact to her Mom, and she suggested to her to “write a bunch of beginnings, then.” So Yvonne did.

On 20 September 2017, our daughter passed away. Losing her has redirected our lives in certain categories. So many things we encounter, associated with her presence in our family, will often make us pause in our tracks. We’ve cried; sometimes long and loud, we’ve cried. Then we gather ourselves up and remember God’s promise to give each of us a new eternal life, later down the line, just up ahead. And so we keep moving forward with peace in our hearts, anticipating that joyful reunion…

About a year after Yvonne passed away, we stumbled upon a tiny spiral-ring notebook wherein we found five separate ‘story starter’ beginnings. Each one encompassed one entire page of the half-sized notebook. Each one is slightly different. Each one has the potential to be an intriguing story on its own.

So…as her Dad, as a Writer, as someone who appreciates ideas, as a person who likes to see things come to completion, I’m taking it in hand to finish the tales. Let’s see how I do…
